Kewal Dhariwal, CCP, CDP, CBIP, FCIPS, I.S.P., ITCP

Mr. Dhariwal has made significant contributions to the field of information and communication technology over his career of 30 plus years. He has taken on leadership roles in numerous associations and Institutions across the profession.

Mr. Dhariwal continues in his role as Executive Director at the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP), which he has held since 2001. ICCP is a society of professional associations - providing skills assessment and focused job qualification through certification for business, data and computer professionals. Kewal has coordinated and often personally administered the certification exams all the while promoting the requirement for professionalism to industry.

Mr. Dhariwal was Conference Co-Chair from 2015 – 2017 for the Data Management and Intelligence Conference (Canada & USA). The last Canadian conference (2017) was sold out. The Data Management Conference advances discussions on Data Science, Data Analytics, Internet of Things, Streaming Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Data Management, Data Modeling, Data Architecture, Data Governance, Data Stewardship, also including Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

Mr. Dhariwal was Academic Manager of Research at Athabasca University for eight years from 2002 through 2010. Among a number of initiative, he made significant contributions in:

  • Establishing the Supply Chain Collaborative Online Research Institute (SCCORI) at Athabasca University
  • Researching emerging standards - for ICCP professionals in Data Management, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Information Quality and IS/IT Management
  • Researching value of ICCP credentials for employees in the workplace with Florida Atlantic University, Salisbury University, & Missouri State
  • Researching student performance against nationally-normed examinations and ABET and AACSB standards for program and learning outcomes

Mr. Dhariwal was Dean at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Polytechnic for 2001 and 2002. During that time, he managed 450+ faculty, 400+ support staff, $20m+ budget, 2500+ full time students, 4000+ part-time students, 25+ full -time programs from electronics, to multimedia, software to telecommunications programs and apprenticeship programs. Also, while at SAIT he managed the CISCO chair in networking and aided fundraising for education, political and corporate relations in industry.

During Mr. Dhariwal’s tenure at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) from 1981 to 2001, he founded the Microcomputer Institute (CTC) Computer Training Center. As Director of the Microcomputer Institute he supervised 4500 plus students annually, with 90 faculty, and 20 Certification programs in leading edge computer technologies. In his capacity as Manager of International Education for NAIT, he advanced projects and onsite custom training for the World Bank and Canadian International Development Agency.

Mr. Dhariwal was active within the Canadian Information Processing Society taking on numerous roles from Board Member to Executive Committee and ultimately President from 1999 through 2000. These were formative years where the Information Systems Professional (I.S.P.) became registered in the government legislatures of Ontario, Alberta, B.C., New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan, legally protecting the occupational designation and professional practice.

For eleven years from 1982 through 1992, Mr. Dhariwal was a member of the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA) progressing to serve as Chapter President and International Director (DPMA).

Mr. Dhariwal continues to be active in the Industry promoting professionalism, integrity and continued personal development. I am pleased to nominate Kewal Dhariwal for CIPS Fellow.
