CIPS Certification and Candidate Applications and Requirements (AITP, I.S.P., ITCP)

Candidate Membership and the AITP (Associate Information Technology Professional) Designation

Candidate Membership and the Pre-Professional AITP (Associate Information Technology Professional) Designation pertains to individuals who have successfully completed an IT related University of College program but have not yet accumulated the required years of Professional IT work experience to be approved for the Professional I.S.P. (Information Systems Professional) Certification (view I.S.P. eligibility http://www.cips.ca/ispCriteria).

AITP Requirements and Application:

- Note: Graduates of CIPS Accredited Programs (see: http://www.cips.ca/accredited) automatically qualify for the AITP and receive One Year of Free CIPS Membership. Click Here for More Info.

1 - Current CIPS Membership

2 AITP Application Review Fee Payment 

3 - Pass the CIPS Ethics Exam

4 - Provide 2 Sponsors

5Candidate Application

6 - Official Transcripts and/or Equivalency Assessment mailed to CIPS National Office

- Note for Applicants with Education outside of North America: 
Applicants who completed their education at an educational institution outside of North America must provide a Canadian course-by-course equivalency assessment and a statement of equivalency from a recognized Canadian academic credential assessment service (see Appendix A in application). If the equivalency assessment indicates that the official transcripts were received directly from the institution this assessment can be mailed to CIPS instead of the Official Transcripts. Alternatively the Official Transcripts can be mailed and a copy of the equivalency assessment can be e-mailed.

I.S.P. (Information Systems Professional) Designation 

Canada’s only legally recognized designation for IT professionals, Professional I.S.P. (Information Systems Professional) Designation provides clients and employers with trusted assurance of an IT professional’s knowledge and experience. I.S.P. standing has been granted in Canada since 1989 and is legislated as a self-regulating designation in six provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia), with other provinces working toward similar legislation.

I.S.P. Requirements and Application:

1 - Current CIPS Membership

2 Certification Application Review Fee Payment 

3 - Pass the CIPS Ethics Exam

4 - At least 1,000 hours of IT work experience in last 12 months

5 References for last 2 years

6 - I.S.P. Application - Select one of the routes below:

Route 1: I.S.P. "Education plus Experience" Route Application - View Eligibility at http://www.cips.ca/ispCriteria

- Official Transcripts and/or Equivalency Assessment mailed to CIPS National Office

Note for Applicants with Education outside of North America:

ITCP (Information Technology Certified Professional) Designation

Introduced in 2008, the ITCP (Information Technology Certified Professional) certification is intended for senior IT workers and academics who have demonstrated an ability to apply their organizational experience to tough problems and achieve ambitious goals.
