Every year on International Women's Week, Information Technology (IT) Week and weeks prior, special Women in IT events are held across the country. Approximately 3,000 thirteen- to fifteen-year-old girls participate. Speakers and mentors across the country have included high profile women like Alice Thomas, CGI Vice President of E-Business & Customer Care, Joanne Morretti, Computer Associates, General Manager and Vice President in Toronto, Honourable Iris Evans, Minister of Children's Services in Edmonton and Lori MacMullen former Chief Information Officer of New Brunswick in Fredericton. |
The objective of the CIPS Women in IT program is to change the negative perceptions high school girls have about IT careers and to encourage them to pursue a career in IT. The program receives numerous media attention on TV, radio, and various business/technology and women¡¦s publications. Girls and teachers in attendance at the Women in IT events have indicated that they are pleased that CIPS is providing an opportunity for students to explore career options in IT.
