Featured Whitepaper: Top 8 Considerations for Choosing the Right Rack Power Distribution Units to Fit Your Needs

Top 8 Considerations for Choosing the Right Rack Power Distribution Units to Fit Your Needs

Executive Summary

Power design in data centers is getting substantial attention—particularly by facilities and engineering personnel—as organizations pursue constant improvements in reliability and energy efficiency. At the same time, however, many IT professionals tend to spend little time or energy on the specific products they use to deliver and distribute electrical power. In rack power is often considered less strategically important than which servers or databases to deploy, and it is often one of the last decisions to be made in the overall design of the data center. But choosing the right in-rack power solutions can save organizations from potentially crippling downtime and deliver significant up-front and ongoing savings through improved IT efficiency and data center infrastructure management.

Tripp Lite Expands Line of PDU Ethernet Switch Combos

(Chicago, IL, USA)—Tripp Lite, a world-leading manufacturer of power protection and connectivity solutions, has expanded its exclusive and award-winning line of space-saving PDU Ethernet Switch Combos. Merging a PDU and unmanaged network switch into a single 1U device, the new models offer 12 outlets and 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports. Eight of the ports on the new PoE+ (Power over Ethernet) model have the capability to provide up to 30 watts of power per port for devices like VoIP phones, wireless access points and surveillance cameras. The PoE+ model also includes two SFP ports for optical network uplink to additional units.

All of the PDU Ethernet Switch Combos, which received an Honorable Mention in The CRN Test Center’s 2015 Products of the Year, have green Ethernet technology, which detects the length of a connected network cable and adjusts power consumption accordingly. They are ideal for server rooms, network closets, applications using wall-mount network cabinets and any environment where rack space is at a premium.

Key Features:

  • Save space by combining a 12-outlet PDU and 24-port unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet switch into a single 1U device
  • PoE+ model features eight PoE+ ports that provide up to 30 watts of power per port to connected devices
  • Available with two SFP ports for optical network uplink to additional units
  • Green Ethernet technology turns off inactive ports and detects cable lengths to optimize power usage
  • 8K address MAC address table
  • Support for jumbo frames up to 9216 bytes

“Our newest PDU Ethernet Switch Combos give IT managers additional options so that they can get all the features they need for their specific application,” said David Posner, Tripp Lite Product Manager. “With Power over Ethernet, users have enhanced functionality without compromising the space-saving 1U design.”
