Request for participation - 2015 Study on the Participation of Small and Medium Enterprises in Federal Procurement

Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) has been consulting with industry in order to improve procurement processes and services and make it easier for small and medium enterprises (SME) to participate in federal procurement.

In October 2014, the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, consulted with over 85 000 suppliers. This consultation yielded numerous suggestions for improving procurement.

In 2012, PWGSC released the report Integral to the Economy, Integral to Procurement. This report was the outcome of the 2012 SME Study (Participation of SMEs in Federal Procurement) that was conducted to understand the challenges SMEs encounter with government procurement. The report identified both challenges to address, and opportunities to explore to support SMEs in doing business with the Government of Canada.

Since 2012, PWGSC has implemented SMART Procurement, an initiative that has buyers engaging with suppliers early in the procurement process in order to better align the request for a product or service with what industry can provide. The department has also consolidated federal government tenders and related procurement information on to help industry make better business decisions.

We are once again asking for your valuable input through the 2015 SME Study that will measure the progress and the impact of the changes PWSGC has carried out since 2012. Your feedback will guide future improvements to our services.
