Ubiquitous Computing - What's In YOUR Pocket?

Chris Vessey, UPEI

Ubiquitous computing, or "ubicomp", is a relatively new concept born of the creation of new, low-cost hardware based development platforms.  In this talk, Chris will show how the world of microcontrollers are enabling ordinary people to craft new devices such as remote environmental sensors, robotically-controlled window blinds, server monitor indicators and much, much more.  His talk crosses into the realm of the "MakerSpace" - where electronic design coupled with 3D printing enables amazing new devices to be created without huge corporate facilities that were once required.

Chris Vessey is the Systems Administrator, Laboratory Instructor and a Sessional Instructor for the Department of Computer Science at UPEI, and holds a degree from that Department.  He has a long history of hardware involvement, both from his early career days, and from teaching Digital Systems at UPEI for about a decade.  He is also an amateur radio operator, which involves lots of hardware work!
