About the Speaker

Ron Stinson
Director of IT & Operations, Rainmaker Entertainment

Film studios, no matter their size, don't lack for business challenges: limited resources, increasingly complex projects, lack of datacenter space and power, or competition that drives down bids. Ron Stinson's presentation looks into the exciting business of animation, and describes how local and international studios formed the Vancouver Studio Group. The group's solutions have lowered production costs, created an on-demand model for resources and launched a datacenter with 1,000 shared servers and workstations, with shared data storage and facilities still to come.

Rainmaker is one of Canada's largest producers of CG animation. Their first feature film, Escape from Planet Earth, opened on 3,200 screens across North America in February last year. Originally established as Mainframe Entertainment, the company produced the first ever CGI animation series, ReBoot.
