Presentation Overview Description

For all the years that many have tried to raise the profile of computer science education, now is the time to seize the day, more than any other.  There is widespread interest from those who are not computer scientists: politicians, athletes, musicians, and actors are all lending their support.

This year, has championed the international effort (over 150 countries are involved) called the Hour of Code: an attempt to get 10,000,000 students to experience programming for one hour.  We will talk about an event held in Regina on December 6 and what we can do to engage our local communities.


Daryl Heptingis an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Regina and a President's Teaching and Learning Scholar 2013-14.  He is President of the Saskatchewan Chapter of the Computer Science Teachers Association and a member of the Outreach Committee of CACS/AIC (Canadian Association of Computer Science/Associateion d'Informatique Canadienne).
