CIPS Victoria Nov 20th Dinner: "The Security of Everything”
Wed, 11/20/2013
Event Location:

5:30 –8:00 p.m.

Guest Speaker:  ANIL LAL, CISCO Systems

“The Security of Everything”

As more people, devices and things (some we don't even know about yet!) get connected, we’re approaching the Internet of Everything (IoE). From smart phones to home appliances, across all verticals (Education, Government, Manufacturing….) the IoE is becoming relevant in our lives. As with any internet-based trend, security and privacy must be top-of-mind.

With the advent of ubiquitous mobile devices, the security perimeter has dissolved; traditional security models have strained to contain threats. The presentation will explore the IofE from the perspective of security…where traditional models are lacking, looking forward to new toolkits.

Anil Lal is a Cisco Systems Engineer with more than 20 years experience in the IT industry. He has built, architected and managed both public and private sector networks. 8 years at Cisco’s R&D facilities in Kanata gave him insight into how the most powerful routers on the planet are engineered and deployed in some of the largest networks in the world.

CIPS BC supported 12 UVic Comp.Sci. students in attending the Nov 2nd ACM Pacific NW Programming contest at UBC. Join us in congratulating the students as 'scholarship' prizes are presented!
