Higher Colleges of Technology Receives Accreditation by CIPS for IT Programs

The Higher Diploma and Bachelor of Applied Science programs offered by the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) have been successfully accredited by the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS). The CIPS Information Systems and Technology Accreditation Council (ISTAC) has accredited all five Information Technology programs for a period of three years, which is the maximum possible period for newly accredited programs.

"These programs help to create graduates that are knowledgeable Information Technology practitioners. Each of the five approved programs will help to ensure our profession can continue to pull from a pool of highly skilled candidates worldwide. In addition, the program speeds up the qualification process for those seeking the I.S.P. designation," said Greg Lane, Chair of the CIPS Canadian Council of IT Professionals.

The Vice Chancellor of HCT, Dr Tayeb Kamali was very pleased with the accreditation: "This is a major accomplishment for HCT as the accreditation for the Information Technology programs proves that HCT demonstrates world class standards for education in Information Technology programs".

A CIPS team of eight (8) accreditors visited 12 campuses of the HCT during November 2008, and concluded that the programs met the ISTAC criteria for Computer Systems Technology Diploma and Bachelor of Technology programs. It further concluded that the graduate outcomes are meeting the current needs of local industry. The accreditation team was also impressed with the HCT's excellent facilities and generous resources.

"CIPS is very pleased to have been invited to undertake this further overseas accreditation and sincerely thanks all those at the Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates involved in the accreditation for their hard work in preparing for the accreditation.  We heartily congratulate them on the very successful outcome," said Peter King I.S.P. FCIPS, Director of Accreditation and Project Leader.

Students graduating from the accredited programs will qualify for the CIPS pre-professional Candidate membership class, which provides a route to the internationally recognized professional designation - the Information Systems Professional (I.S.P.)

The HCT is grateful for the professionalism of the accreditation team, their thoroughness and attention to detail and quality. The HCT considers that the team of professionals that visited HCT did a thorough and professional evaluation and HCT is grateful for the recommendations and advice to improve the programs.
