After a review of global trends in professional certification programs, the CIPS National Board of Directors approved changes in March 2013 to the re-certification policies. Globalization and economic realities have made the I.T. job market highly competitive. New, cutting edge technologies become stale faster as development cycles speed up and newer products are released. For those just starting out – or even seasoned professionals - demonstrated proof of your competence to an employer or client is a must. Individuals who keep their certification current through a rigorous and transparent re-certification program will stand out professionally.
Certified members, will:
- be required to keep a log of re-certification records;
- only need to submit re-certification form every three years;
- be able to claim credits for certain volunteer activities;
- be subject to a random audit and if selected will be required to submit evidence of their professional development credits.
Details about the new re-certification policies and procedures and the transition schedule can be found on the CIPS website. The transition schedule outlines when certified members will be required to submit the new recertification form. Please note that there are no changes to the 2012 recertification requirements. CIPS believes that these changes will add value to the professional certification program as a more rigorous re-certification process will provide demonstrated proof of one’s competence as an I.T. professional.
