Canadian Cyber Defence Challenge (CDC) Recognized By Computerworld as a 2013 Computerworld Honors Laureate

WINNIPEG, MB - IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program announces Cyber Defence Challenge (CDC) as a 2013 Laureate. The annual award program recognizes organizations and individuals who have used information technology to improve public welfare, business, and to make the world a better place.

“Technology continues to play a pivotal role in transforming how business and society functions. For the past 25 years, the Computerworld Honors Program has had the privilege of celebrating innovative IT achievements,” said John Amato, vice president & publisher, Computerworld. “Computerworld is honored to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the 2013 class of Laureates and to share their work. These projects demonstrate how IT can advance organizations' ability to compete, innovate, communicate and prosper.”

“On behalf of the CDC, we are deeply honored and humbled to receive this affirmation of the importance of investing in our youth”, said Kerry Augustine, co-chair of the CDC. "We are grateful for the many key sponsors who have contributed resources and expertise to develop this program including our three foundation professional organizations - CIPS Manitoba, ISACA Winnipeg, and ISC² Manitoba/Saskatchewan Chapter. Through their leadership and the support of the IT community, including McAfee, Merlin, Daemon Defence, Dell, MTS Allstream, Seccuris, PCGI Consulting, SkullSpace, and many others, this program has become a reality. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated team of volunteers. The entire CDC is focused and committed to benefiting our youth and securing the next generation of young leaders. Our goal is to educate and empower the local community to use the Internet safely and securely at home, work, and school, protecting the individual, the networks they connect to, and Canada's shared digital assets.”

The Canadian Cyber Defence Challenge is the first program in Canada that brings students and security professionals together with the goal of raising cyber-security awareness among Canada’s youth, as well as motivating and encouraging them to consider science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines post-secondary.
