Canadian Advanced Security Initiative to Grow Sector
CATA, CIPS, CSIS, ISACA and ASIMM Partner on comprehensive program

June 25, 2009

Montréal, June 24, 2009 - CATAAlliance and its partners are pleased to announce the launch of the Canada Advanced Security Initiative, which will include a survey, a workshop and a study. The purpose of this initiative is to develop a strategic perspective of the advanced security industry's strengths -- its ability to support the domestic market needs, export to key markets and respond to the new cyber security strategy announced by Canada's Public Safety Minister.

Five associations have joined forces to ensure the widest participation from industry constituents. They are CATA Alliance, the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS), the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), the Association de la Sécurité du Montréal Métropolitain (ASIMM) and the Canadian Society for Industrial Security (CSIS).

"CIPS supports this initiative and hopes that the results of this work will improve the competitiveness of Canadians and Canadian Corporations in international advanced security markets, " said Greg Lane, Chair of the Canadian Council of Information Technology Professionals (CIPS)

"Recent events created a huge increase in interest by governments and the private sector in the use of advanced security," said John Reid, CATA Alliance President. "For example, the tightening of the US border security policy makes it imperative that we show our security capabilities. "

" To do that, explains project director Jean-Guy Rens, we have to make sure the Canadian advanced industry is recognized and its success known. That is why we are continuing our drive to team up with security associations."

In 2003, CATA, with its partners and a host of private companies had launched the first-ever Canadian study and index of the industry (
