The Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS), Canada’s largest association representing I.T. professionals is looking for volunteers to assume a position on the CIPS Certification Council Academic Review Committee.
The Certification Council is the strategic and operational arm managing the professional CIPS designations program. The operational elements of the Council include the Academic Review Committee and the Experience Review Committee.
The Education Review Committee consists of representatives from the university and college communities. It has a number of vacancies at the moment and is reaching out to the broader academic community to seek out eligible volunteers.
General Purpose and Requirements
The general purpose of the Academic Review Committees is to:
• Review and assess academic details based on educational transcripts;
• Prepare detailed findings on the assessment;
• Report the findings to the Registrar’s Office;
• Provide clarification and advice to the Certification Council on marginal or rejected applications;
• Provide advice to the Office of the Registrar on pre-assessments;
Academic Review Committee Members:
Applicants need to be: a) active holders of the I.S.P. or ITCP designation or be committed to obtaining the designation ; and b) are active faculty members at either the college Computing Information Systems (or similar) or university Computer Science, Software Engineering, M.I.S. (or similar) level.
At the current rate of applications, Committee Members would be expected to allocate around 3 hours per month to conduct the reviews. Appointments are made for a three year term, with one renewal period.
