Breaking cross jurisdictional barriers: Councillor Bob Monette announces intentions to launch

-- Announcement comes on the eve of the first Canada GovCamp unconference to be held in Ottawa on May 31-June 1st at the University of Ottawa.

OTTAWA CITY HALL - In anticipation of the first Canada GovCamp unconference, set for May 31-June 1 at the University of Ottawa, Councillor Bob Monette announced his intentions to launch, an online public consultation forum for residents in the east end in an effort to break down barriers on cross-jurisdictional issues.

‘'There are so many cross jurisdictional issues among governments, such as the construction of a new interprovincial bridge, that residents get frustrated and don't know who and how to communicate their opinions to politicians," said Monette. "Once the logistics are figured out, I plan to work on a pilot project with other east-end Councillors, school board trustees, as well as provincial and federal representatives to set-up"

Councillor Monette's announcement comes as the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) ( will be hosting the first Canada Gov Camp where participants will explore a number of topics associated with technology and government.  This event is unique in that it has the ability to bring together government, industry and community leaders in a new forum to discuss the art of the possible on how they use technology to deliver services and interact with residents.

"Let's in the spirit of GovCamp break those barriers on municipal-provincial-federal issues," continued Monette. "We all have a responsibility as elected officials to work in collaboration in order to listen and better understand the needs of our communities - no matter what the issue.''

About Canada GovCamp

The event is free of charge and follows the successful model established by and is designed to foster a dialogue between thought leaders in the community, government and industry in a unique un-conference format where participants actually establish the agenda on the floor and explore themes that are of most interest to them.  For example, wouldn't it be great if you could call one number and be able to get an answer to government services regardless of which level provided it?

Canada Gov Camp is being hosted by the Canadian Association for Information Technology Professionals, sponsored by Microsoft Canada on behalf of the community.
