The Ministry of Education of the Government of Manitoba is set to make a major announcement to encourage youth to pursue careers in technology on December 5.

The Ministry, represented by Deputy Minister Dr. Gerald Farthing, as well as the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC), along with Google Canada, Cisco Canada and Canada’s Association of IT Professionals (CIPS) will host a launch event in Winnipeg to kick off a major initiative.

On December 5, the agenda will be as follows:

1:30 PM (CENTRAL) at Technical Vocational High School (1555 Wall Street, Winnipeg Manitoba)

Video screening, classroom tour, short presentations on the launch of the Focus on IT program in Manitoba high schools with Ministry of Education Dr. Gerald Farthing and representatives of ICTC, Google Canada, Cisco Canada and CIPS. Media are asked to present themselves in the front lobby.

1:30 – 1:35 Classroom screening of video

1:35 – 1:50 Short presentations by Ministry of Education Deputy Minister Gerald Farthing, ICTC Vice President of Business Development Norm McDevitt, Google Canada Manager of Global Public Policy Colin McKay, Cisco Networking Academy Manager for Canada, Wadih Zaatar, and Kerry Augustine of CIPS.

1:50 – 1:55 Ribbon-cutting

1:55 – 2:00 FIT student testimonial

2:00 – 2:10 Welcome via webcast from other FIT schools

2:10 – 2:20 Q&A for Press

2:20 – 2:40 Tour of school
