IP3 Board Elects New Chair

The Board of Directors of the International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3) today elected as its new Chairman, Dr. Roger Johnson. 

Dr. Johnson has a longstanding and distinguished career in ICT and most recently retired as Dean of the Faculty at the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at Birkbeck College, University of London. In March 2010 he was made a Fellow of Birkbeck College. Dr. Johnson was Honorary Secretary of IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) for 11 years to September 2010 and continues to represent IFIP on the IP3 Board. He is also a Past President of BCS (British Computer Society), and CEPIS (Council of European Informatics Societies). He  was a leading participant in creating of ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence), "inventor" of EUCIP (European Certification of Informatics Professionals), BCS representative to Engineering Council UK, co-organiser of an international conference on Global IT Skills, and participated in CEN/ISSS workshops on professional skills.

"It's an honour to be asked to guide the IP3 at this exciting period in its history," explains Mr. Johnson. "IP3 is an important global initiative and I look forward to continue supporting its efforts in implementing its vision to promote professionalism in IT, define international professional standards and create a global infrastructure that will encourage and support the development of both ICT practitioners and employer organizations.”

Dr. Johnson will succeed Mr. Greg Lane, who has served as Chairman of the Board since September 2008.  Among Mr. Lane’s main achievements are the enhancements of the global dialogue around professionalism in IT.  Under his stewardship, IP3 established the IP3 Global Industry Council (IP3-GIC), adopted a long-term strategic plan, and ratified a policy concerning mutual acceptance of professional certification.

Mr. Lane will remain a member of the IP3 Board in his capacity as representative for the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS).

At their meeting today members of the Board of Directors expressed their sincere gratitude to Mr. Lane for the outstanding services he has rendered to IP3 over the past three years.
