CIPS Call for Interest - Education Equivalency Assessors

CIPS recently submitted a proposal to Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s (CIC) Foreign Credential Recognition Office (FCRO) to attain the rights to a service agreement under the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC) whereby persons seeking to apply for immigration into Canada would be required to submit an assessment of their foreign educational credentials’ authenticity and equivalency to a Canadian educational credential.  Although CIPS has not yet been identified as a preferred provider of these educational credential assessments, it is preparing to be ready by December 31st should our bid be successful.

CIPS already assesses foreign credentials as part of its Certification Program and engages volunteers for this activity. The anticipated volumes of applicants under the FSWC program could be significantly high and it will be critical to perform these assessments relatively quickly.  CIPS is therefore looking for a number of assessors for the foreign credential assessment group.

The general purpose of the Academic Assessor is to:

  • Review and assess academic details based on educational transcripts;
  • Prepare detailed findings on the assessment;
  • Report the findings to the Registrar’s Office.

CIPS will enter into a service contract with FSWC Assessors and will provide compensation, which is currently anticipated to be $30 to $50 per assessment. Policies and procedures have been established for the assessment, which are based on the individual’s transcript and a credential authenticity verification conducted by one of the recognized credential evaluation services. Depending on the volumes of applications received, and the number of FSWC Assessors, the anticipated workload would be between 2 to 3 hours per week.

Assessors should meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Active holders of a CIPS certification (I.S.P. or ITCP) or be committed to obtaining the designation. CIPS will process your application at no cost;
  • Are active faculty members at either the college Computing Information Systems (or similar) or university Computer Science, Software Engineering, M.I.S. (or similar) level;
  • Formal education (diploma/degree) appropriate to the field.

If you have further questions or would like to add your name to the list of interested candidates please  submit your expression of interest and CV to Gina van Dalen, Manager Professional Standards at by November 9, 2012.
