Update on Manitoba Government’s Business Transformation and Technology strategy

At Manitoba Government, IT plays a critical role in helping government departments deliver service more efficiently to citizens,  developing innovative new services and service delivery methods, enabling new collaborative workforce models, and driving business transformation. The Business Transformation and Technology Division of Innovation, Energy and Mines is the centralized IT function of Manitoba Government. The centralized IT function has been in place for 5 years, as a relatively new entity at Manitoba Government. There are already great examples of successful outcomes of assisting departments deliver services more efficiently by exploiting the potential of ‘common’ information technology foundation.

Gisela Rempel, CIO and Assistant Deputy Minister, Business Transformation and Technology, will speak to us about the Business Transformation and Technology strategy, the initiatives that are underway and some being planned, some of the challenges facing Manitoba Government as they work toward common and accessible infrastructure for both government departments and well as public access, and attempt to maximize the value from their IT budget. Gisela will also touch on what is going on across Canada, and collaboration opportunities she is seeing with other jurisdictions. She will touch on vendor requirements, as well as core competencies and resourcing requirements the Government is forecasting for the year ahead.
