Future of Professions

How Technology Will Forever Change the Practice of Law, Accounting and Medicine

Jerrard Gaertner, CA•IT/CISA, CEGIT, CISSP, CIPP/IT, CIA, CFI, I.S.P., ITCP and CIPS Ontario President

Technology is changing the way we work, the way we study, the way we interact and the way we solve problems.  Some of these changes are progressing rapidly, driven by the consumerization of technology and demand.  Others, however, have been held back by tradition, institutional technophobia, protection of exclusive rights to practice and an outdated statutory framework.

Just how will technology affect professions in the future - in particular law, accounting and medicine?  What must these professions do to "catch up"?  What should we, as the ultimate end users of these services, expect and demand in the years to come?
