Blog: CIPS Chair Update of the Week (Sept 24th) - From Amsterdam!

Sept 22 - Well I arrived safe and sound at 6:10am Amsterdam time which would have been 11:10pm in Saskatchewan.  I did catch a few cat naps on the flight so I was not feeling too bad when we landed.  I thought I might be adventurous and take the train to my hotel but I soon found out there are a lot of trains going the wrong way so I took a cab which only ended up to be 32 EUR and only took about 10 minutes.  I did have to wait a couple of hours for the hotel to get a room ready, so I had a wonderful buffet breakfast and walked around the RAI which is the conference center the IFIP World Computer Congress is at, it is huge but close to the hotel and easy to get around.   The room wait was worth it and I ended up with an upgraded room which is pretty much the same as an average nice hotel room in Canada and about the same price ($200 per night).   After I checked in I was ready to see Amsterdam. I took the tram to the city center, I took lots of pictures of the amazing old buildings and canals.  I ended up back at Central Station which is easy to find, you just follow the column of people, either going into or coming out of a large hub of trains, trams, and buses.  I made it back just in time for the 6pm congress kickoff reception back at the RAI.

Sept 24- Monday morning has arrived here and the opening sessions started off with many distinguished speakers presenting their vision of ICT now and to 2020.  Throughout the day today there has been a common theme of how cloud services, mobile technologies including open courseware, will change they way the industry expands and develops.
