Are You Ready For Private Cloud?

via Microsoft TechNet

I'm Ruth Morton, Technology Advisor with Microsoft Canada and I work on a team that is tasked with helping you, Canadian IT folk, by providing resources, answering questions and generally trying to set you up for success with Microsoft-based solutions.

One of the latest trends transforming how IT services are provided is Private Cloud infrastructure. What Is A Private Cloud? Basically it's a back end infrastructure built so that it has some of the characteristics of a public cloud infrastructure such as pooled resources, self-service, elasticity, and being usage based, but is dedicated for a particular organization. Its Cloud dedicated to you.

There are some great resources available as you start investigating Private Cloud:

  • Read the blog posts based on a whitepaper comparison of Private Cloud solutions from Microsoft and VMware.
  • Take an assessment to see how ready you and your organization are for Private Cloud
  • Download a free evaluation of the Microsoft Private Cloud software: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 + System Center 2012
  • Get trained on Private Cloud at the Microsoft Virtual Academy (easy access, no cost training portal)

If you'd prefer to learn through in person events, there  is a great option that delivers an in-depth, technical training experience:

  • Get Hands-On with System Center 2012 and Windows Server 2012
    • Private Cloud Boot Camp- a full-day, hands-on experience where you will learn the ins and outs of using System Center 2012 and managing your Private Cloud infrastructure.
    • Windows Server 2012 Install Camps– here you learn how to take advantage of the full features of Windows Server 2012 by building your private cloud, increasing your efficiency, and leveraging a web platform for datacenter and cloud.

Please let me know how we are doing! If you ever want to give my colleagues or me some direct feedback, feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn or catch me online on Twitter.

If you're looking for additional help and support for home or work, visit Microsoft's Help and Support Portal. You can solve common problems, ask the community or contact Microsoft directly.

Also, twice a year through something we call "The Global Relationship Study", Microsoft reaches out and contacts you to see how we're doing and what Microsoft could do better. We've just finished receiving responses from the last survey and Microsoft will be compiling that feedback to make changes and adjustments as needed. The next one will go out in the Fall, so keep an eye out for it and if you get one sent to you, please take a little time to tell us what you think. Best regards,
